Students in Grades 5 through 8 have two electives each semester. Student Council is an assigned elective that is 2 semesters. Students are encouraged to rotate electives in order to broaden their experience.
Student Council: Traditional Student Council Business Meeting, plus note taking & elocution. All elected student council members will be assigned this for one of their two electives. |
Yearbook: This group of students will learn about techniques to take quality pictures, photo editing and photo composition. The product will be the school yearbook to capture a lifetime of memories. |
Newspaper: Students will learn how a newspaper is constructed; the style it is written in, how the news applies to their daily lives and what we as Catholic’s can do about it. Our Christ the King students will then create a newspaper for the CTK community. |
Gardening: In this elective students will practice beginning gardening skills, both in containers and outdoors. Gardening activities will include growing plants from kitchen scraps, from mature plants, and from seeds. Students will help decide what types of plants to grow, maintain, and harvest, after we work together to set goals for our garden design and harvest. |

Calligraphy: Study and Practice the fine art of advanced penmanship |
Book Club: The attendees will choose a fascinating book (or two), read in and out of class and discuss. |
Mindset will give 5th grade students an understanding of how the brain develops and how to control growth and fixed mindset. |
Choir: This is the group that learns, prepares and serves in the choir at School Masses, and other events as appropriate. |
Strength and Conditioning: Class will provide an opportunity to improve strength and endurance as well as balance and agility through various sports and fitness related activities. |
Audio and Video Production: Students will learn how to create a story outline and make ideas alive in an audio and video presentation format. Audio/Video Production Tools: Microsoft Movie Maker and/or iMovie, Audacity and/or Garageband |
Debate: Students learn the finer points of arguing on teacher selected topics. |
